Getting There

Sultan Abdul Halim Airport, Kedah

Getting to Kedah, The Rice Bowl of Malaysia, is fairly easy. There are a few ways to get there. You can either choose to get there by Air, by Bus, by Rail, by Ferry or by Road (if you choose to drive there yourself).


Kedah Travel - Getting There by Air

Kedah is easily accessible by air with Malaysia Airlines (MAS) having daily flights from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to Kedah.

Air Asia, Asia's first "No-Frills" airline also offers daily flights from the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) in KLIA to Kedah.

These airlines arrive Kedah at the Sultan Abdul Halim Airport, which is situated about 13 km from Alor Setar (the capital of Kedah).


Kedah Travel - Getting There by Bus

If you are coming from Kuala Lumpur, there are a few bus operators serving the KL-Alor Setar route. Among them are:

Transnasional coaches depart Kuala Lumpur from the Hentian Duta station while the Maraliner buses depart Kuala Lumpur from Hentian Duta, Hentian Puduraya and Hentian Putra stations. They both arrive Alor Setar at Kompleks Bas Shahab Perdana. The journey takes approximately 6 hours.


Kedah Travel - Getting There by Rail

Another alternative to get to Kedah from Kuala Lumpur is by rail. Rail services are provided by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB).

The North-South railway line passes through Alor Setar, the capital of Kedah. You can board the KTM train from KL Sentral in Kuala Lumpur and alight the train at the Alor Setar railway station. The journey takes approximately 11 hours 45 minutes. Once you reach the Alor Setar railway station, simply catch a taxi to get to your desired destination.


Kedah Travel - Getting There by Ferry

If you are coming from Langkawi Island, you could get to Kedah by Ferry. These ferries provide scheduled crossings between Kuala Kedah and Langkawi and the journey takes about 1 hour 30 minutes.

The fare from Langkawi to Kedah is RM 18 for adults and RM 12 for children (*Fares subject to change). The operation hours of the ferry is from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.


Getting There by Road

If you're the type who enjoys driving, then you could choose to drive yourself to Kedah. Getting to Kedah from Kuala Lumpur is fairly easy.

From Kuala Lumpur, hit the North-South highway and keep on heading North. Along the way, you would be passing by exits such as Rawang, Tanjung Malim, Simpang Pulai, Kuala Kangsar, Bukit Merah, Bukit Tambun, Sungai Petani Selatan, Sungai Petani Utara, Gurun before finally reaching Alor Star in Kedah.
