Langkawi Underwater World

"To be truly Fascinated by the Amazingly Beautiful
Pulau Langkawi Attractions,
You've got to come here and see it for yourself!"

One of the Langkawi attractions that fall under the category of "MUST-VISIT" is the Langkawi Underwater World (well, at least that's what I strongly believe...). The Underwater World is located at Pantai Chenang (Chenang Beach) and is one of the largest marine and freshwater aqaria in the region.

There are over 5,000 varieties of fish and as many as 500 species of other aquatic creatures displayed here in over 100 tanks. The highlights here are the Hexagonal tank and the 15 metre long clear glass walk-through tunnel tank that contains 6 million litres of sea water.

Shark, Langkawi Underwater WorldWhen you're here, you would be able to walk through the tunnel and truly appreciate the beauty of these fascinating marine life.

Some of the marine life that you would be able to see through the glass tunnel are stingrays, huge turtles, moray eels and a wide variety of sharks including the Zebra, Black Tip and White Tip sharks.

It's absolutely awesome to see these beautiful and amazing marine creatures swim past you and what makes it even more interesting is knowing that they are only separated from you by a laminated clear glass wall. Simply Awesome!

Rockhopper Penguins, Langkawi Underwater WorldIf you walk towards the 60,000 square feet new wing, you'd be able to see rockhopper penguins and blackfooted penguins (brought in from South America).

I'd have to admit that I have never seen penguins at such close range.

This is definitely an amazing experience!

The rockhopper penguins are placed in a tank containing rocks and water with the temperature maintained at 8°C while the blackfooted penguins are housed in a 20°C tank where they would be able to swim about freely.

Besides penguins, seals are also housed here.

Capybara, Langkawi Underwater WorldFor snake lovers, the Langkawi Underwater World also houses the Anaconda from the Amazon in the new wing.

On top of that, the Langkawi Underwater World is also home to the Arapaima - the world's largest freshwater fish, the Capybara - world's largest rodent, and the Marmoset - world's smallest monkey.

There is also a 3-D cinema here at the Langkawi Underwater World. The cinema can sit 200 visitors at any one time. This cinema uses virtual reality (VR) technology to portray realistic images of sea creatures which are not found here. This enables visitors to view these creatures up close as if they're just right in front of you! (it can be quite scary at times...)

The Langkawi Underwater World is Opened Daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Mondays to Sundays. On Public Holidays and School Holidays, it is opened slightly earlier at 9:30 a.m. and closes at 6:00 p.m. The last entrance of the day is at 6:00 p.m.

The Entrance Fee is RM 28 for adults and RM 18 for children.
