Pulau Langkawi
Getting Around the Legendary Island

Dataran Lang, Langkawi

"To be truly Fascinated by the Amazingly Beautiful
Pulau Langkawi Attractions,
You've got to come here and see it for yourself!"

Getting around Langkawi Island is easy as there are many modes of transportation to choose from when you're here. You could either get around with a motorcycle, rent a car or you could take a taxi.

Pulau Langkawi - Getting Around by Motorcycles

The cheapest, easiest and most convenient way to get around Langkawi Island is by motorcycle. This mode of transportation is a great way to see this beautiful legendary Island. Motorcycles can be rented in Kuah town and also in many parts of Langkawi Island. What you would need to rent a motorcycle is a valid license and cash! However, they're not really strict in seeing your license before handing you the keys to your motorcycle.

Remember to wear a helmet as this is required by law. Even if there were no laws requiring you to wear a helmet, you should still wear it, after all, it's for your own safety, right? When riding here, always keep to the left side of the road.

Pulau Langkawi - Getting Around by Car

Nothing beats having your own wheels. The comfort of driving and the convenience of being able to go anywhere you want around Langkawi Island, at anytime you desire makes this the most popular mode of transportation. Even though the charges for renting a car is slightly on the high side here in Langkawi Island, personally, I think it's well worth it. After all, you're only going to be renting the car for a fews days only (it's not like you're going to rent it for the whole month!)

There are several car rental agencies offering quite a wide variety of cars to choose from. Most of the cars for rent here are the Malaysian made Proton and Perodua cars. The rates for renting a car varies between RM 80.00 and RM 150.00, depending on the model of the car and the season (Peak / Off-Peak).

Most of the time, right after you get off the ferry, numerous car rental agents will swarm around the Kuah jetty exit, peddling their cars at various rates. I would recommend that you ask around first before committing to one car rental agent, to ensure that you get the lowest price possible.

Oh, and by the way, cars can also be rented from booths at the Langkawi International Airport.

Below are some of the car rental agencies operating in Pulau Langkawi:

  • Kasina Rent-A-Car

    Tel: +604 644 1842

    Email: rental@kasina.com.my

    Website: www.kasina.com.my

  • Legend Admire Tours & Travel Sdn. Bhd

    Tel: +604 966 1368

  • Sala Travel & Tour Sdn. Bhd.

    Tel: +604 966 7521

  • Mahamas Travel & Tour Sdn. Bhd.

    Tel: +604 966 7689

    Mobile: +6019 449 8008

Cars in Langkawi and Malaysia are right hand drive. So, when driving on the road, keep to the left side of the road. Don't forget to fasten your seat belts too!

Pulau Langkawi - Getting Around by Taxi

Another alternative to get around Pulau Langkawi is by taxi. There are taxi stands at the jetty terminal, at major shopping centres and in central Kuah. Taxis here in Langkawi are unmetered, but the fares are quite reasonable. You can even rent taxis by the hour or day for touring the island and the charges are about RM 15 per hour. This is still negotiable depending on the amount of driving (or waiting) involved and the distance covered by the taxi.
