Traveling to Sabah is easy and convenient as Sabah enjoys good air-links with major cities in Asia-Pacific. Direct flights as well as transit flights via Bangkok, Brunei, Taipei, Kaoshiung, Manila, Seoul, Tokyo, Singapore, Hong Kong and Cebu offer frequent and easy access to Sabah, The Land Below The Wind.

There are currently 7 major airlines flying directly into Kota Kinabalu, the capital city of Sabah. They are:

  • Malaysia Airlines (MAS)
  • Air Asia
  • Royal Brunei Airline
  • Dragonair
  • Korean Air
  • Silk Air
  • Asiana Airlines

These airlines fly into Sabah Via the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) located in Kota Kinabalu. The airport is the second busiest airport in Malaysia after KLIA, serviing more than 70 international flights per week.

The following are the Sabah Travel options sorted according to the major Airlines.


Sabah Travel - Getting there by:

Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flies directly from Kuala Lumpur, Brunei, Guang Zhou, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taipei, Kaoshiung, Tokyo, Osaka, Cebu, Manila, Singapore and Seoul into Sabah via the Kota Kinabalu International Airport. But if you are coming from Australia, Malaysian Airlines flies to Sabah with one stop-over at Kuala Lumpur. The transit flight from Kuala Lumpur across the South China Sea to Kota Kinabalu takes approximately 1 hour 20 minutes.

Air Asia, Asia's first no-frills budget airline flies directly from Kuala Lumpur, Clark Airport (situated just outside Manila, Philippines) and Bangkok (Thailand) into Sabah via the Kota Kinabalu International Airport.




Asiana Airlines flies directly from Seoul, South Korea into Sabah via the Kota Kinabalu International Airport.








Dragonair flies directly from Hong Kong into Sabah via the Kota Kinabalu International Airport.








Silk Air flies directly from Singapore into Sabah via the Kota Kinabalu International Airport.






Korean Air flies directly from Seoul, South Korea into Sabah via the Kota Kinabalu International Airport.



The Royal Brunei Airline flies directly from Brunei into Sabah via the Kota Kinabalu International Airport. But if you are coming from Australia, Royal Brunei Airline flies to Sabah with a stop-over at Brunei. The transit flight from Brunei to Kota Kinabalu takes approximately 20 minutes.


Once you reach the Kota Kinabalu International Airport, you can simply catch a taxi to get to your desired destination. The Taxis from the airport operate under a coupon system arranged with the Airport. All you have to do is to proceed to the designated counter and purchase a coupon. If you cannot find the counter, you can always ask the airport staff for assistance.

Once you have purchased your coupons, walk out to the taxi stand (you would normally see quite a number of taxis queueing up) and simply hand the coupon to the taxi driver. He will drive you to your destination. Remember, you don't have to pay him anymore cash.
